Overview
Join to apply for the Consultant Psychiatrist – CAMHS Community role at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
We’re offering an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our North West Sussex CAMHS community service in Horsham. This is a key leadership role in a well-established multidisciplinary team providing specialist mental health assessment and treatment for children and young people aged 0–18.
You’ll join a friendly, supportive service that includes nurses, psychologists, systemic family therapists and child psychotherapists, working collaboratively to deliver NICE-evidenced, family-centred care. Consultants within Sussex CAMHS are integral to shaping how services evolve — influencing quality improvement, training and service development across the locality.
This post attracts an enhanced Recruitment and Retention Payment of £45,000, paid in instalments over three years (£15,000 on appointment, £10,000 at 12 months, £10,000 at 24 months and £10,000 at 36 months). Relocation expenses up to £8,000 are also available, subject to policy.
What you’ll bring
We’re seeking a CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist with broad experience in community child and adolescent psychiatry and an interest in neurodevelopmental assessment and intervention. You’ll bring strong clinical judgement, excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with families, schools, GPs and wider system partners. A commitment to service improvement and compassionate, evidence-based care is essential.
What you’ll do
You’ll provide high-quality psychiatric assessment and treatment, including pharmacological management and Mental Health Act assessments, working closely with MDT colleagues across a range of settings.
You’ll support neurodevelopmental pathways (ASD, ADHD), provide consultation to referrers and partner agencies, and play an active role in service development and governance.
As part of Sussex Partnership’s Trust-wide consultant network, you’ll have access to peer support, divisional meetings and professional development opportunities. The Trust also maintains strong links with Brighton and Sussex Medical School, offering opportunities for teaching and supervision of trainees across all grades.
