Job overview

The Nuclear Medicine service at Singleton Hospital has two state-of-the art SPECT-CT systems, an on-site Radiopharmacy, bone densitometry, a mobile PET-CT service, inpatient radionuclide therapy and gamma counting facilities. The post holder manage operations and a highly skilled team working within the Radiopharmacy (under full compliant GMP as outlined by our MHRA "specials" license), providing a wide range of radiolabelled products to numerous Nuclear Medicine departments within South Wales. They will be required to manage a full range of technical activities involved in the day to day running of the Radiopharmacy, including radiopharmaceutical manufacture and blood labelling services.

This post involves complex and specialised technical work, handling radioactive substances and dealing with the hazards associated with ionising radiation on a daily basis.

Main duties of the job

Radiopharmaceutical manufacture is carried out under a Manufacturer’s Specials Licence issued by the MHRA. The post holder will be the named Production Manager on the ‘Specials’ Licence for the Radiopharmacy service.

The post holder will lead a highly skilled team involved in the preparation and distribution of radiopharmaceuticals. The post holder will be required to manage the Radiopharmacy Quality System and ensure that the Radiopharmacy operates according to the terms of its ‘Specials’ Licence and in line with EU Directive 2003/94/EC (the “GMP Directive”).

Person specification

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. B.Sc./PGCert./Pg. Dip./M.Sc. in Nuclear Medicine Technology or Clinical Pharmaceutical Science or B.Pharm./M.Pharm. in Pharmacy or equivalent
2. Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council or other relevant professional body
3. ILM Level 5 or Diploma level qualification in management or equivalent management experience

Desirable criteria

4. Technician Accuracy Checking Qualification
5. Qualification in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance.

Experience

Essential criteria

6. Specialist knowledge of areas of technical services including aseptic preparation, MHRA “Specials” manufacturing and Wholesale Dealer Activities.
7. Extensive knowledge of Ionising Radiation Regulations relating to Radiopharmacy practices.
8. Experience of staff training and workforce development

Desirable criteria

9. Experience of dealing with external suppliers and customers
10. Demonstratable engagement with project and change management.

Aptitude and abilities

Essential criteria

11. Evidence of specialist knowledge of radiopharmacy. Understanding of future strategy in technical services. Knowledge of key digital systems such as Q-Pulse, Wellsky, MRS, Isostock. Ability to liaise with other team leaders internal and external to organisation
12. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to work as team or under own initiative. Good organisational and time management skills

Desirable criteria

13. Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh

14. Able to work hours flexibly, between the hours of 6am – 6:00pm
15. Deliver excellent customer service to our internal and external customers, helping us to maintain the customer service excellence standard
