Job Overview
An exciting opportunity as a Band 3 Engagement worker within the RECONNECT service. The service works with individuals being released from prison or immigration removal centres to support access to community services for a range of health and social support needs. Under the supervision of RECONNECT registered practitioners, the post holder will provide time‑limited support, working in a trauma‑informed way to enable them to access services for mental health, substance and/or alcohol use, physical health, neurodiversity, education and employment.
The engagement worker primarily delivers short‑term work in the community for up to 6 months with individuals referred by registered practitioners and works with service users prior to release. The role also collaborates closely with RECONNECT peer support workers. Successful applicants must hold a full and valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
Responsibilities
* Support service users adjusting from prison or an immigration removal centre to community life and addressing identified health needs.
* Work closely with providers such as the Prison Service, Probation and Turning Point to help service users source solutions to their care/support needs, including registering/attending appointments, submitting applications or referrals and handing over to partner agencies.
* Provide clear advice and support to service users and maintain a good understanding of support provisions available in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
* Improve the journey and outcomes for service users as they transition to community life, enhancing coordination and access to support services to improve wellbeing and independence.
* Apply standard operating procedures, policies and guidelines, demonstrating self‑directed development and recognising limitations within the scope of the role.
* Act in a manner that upholds privacy, dignity, respect and confidentiality for patients and colleagues.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Band 3 level experience or qualification.
* Good understanding of the criminal justice system is beneficial but not essential.
* Full UK driving licence and reliable vehicle access.
* Willingness to undergo Leicestershire Prison vetting clearance before contract.
* Ability to work in a trauma‑informed, community‑based environment.
* Strong communication, organisational and self‑directed learning skills.
