Offer description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We have an exciting opportunity within our Psychological Therapies Department for a Head of Older Adult Psychology / Consultant Clinical Psychologist.

As a Head of Service, this offers a fantastic chance for the right candidate to lead and influence strategic development in the provision of expert, comprehensive, specialist psychological services. You will provide advice and assistance to colleagues/organisations throughout the NHS Highland Board area involved in the delivery of psychological care to this population.

You will be an essential part of our senior management team, supported by the wider Psychology Service, Senior Service Manager, and the Director of Psychology. You will play a key role in delivering and growing the service putting patients and their families at the heart of service delivery. Within your role you will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of local and Board policies and procedures.

The Psychology Service within NHS Highland is a supportive, dynamic, and developing department, providing services across the region, so flexibility in business approach will be key. The nature of the health board area requires us to be innovative and continually adapting to change. Supportive and robust professional guidance, clinical supervision and line management are provided. There are excellent opportunities for leadership development, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), research, teaching, supervision, and training other professionals.

This post will involve remote working with some travel to clinics and meetings as required to meet the needs of the service. Applications are welcomed from those who want to work flexibly, with a hybrid model of remote and on-site working requirements. The onsite base will be New Craigs Hospital, Inverness.

The Highlands of Scotland is the largest and most sparsely populated health board in Scotland covering 41% of the country’s landmass. The scenery and quality of living is outstanding. Renowned for its beauty, its varied scenery ranges across mountains, beaches, lochs, castles, and glens.

With excellent opportunities for an outdoor lifestyle, facilities include sailing, mountain biking, snow sports, hiking and open water swimming. The towns, cities and country allow an abundance of opportunities for families, with many primary and secondary schools across the region. Inverness is a growing city, offering museums, shopping, cinemas and theatres, busy bars, and restaurants. The Highlands are accessible with good transport links via car, air, bus or train.

Candidates for this role must have a Post Graduate Doctoral level (or equivalent) degree in Clinical Psychology and hold a current and valid registration with the HCPC.

Part-time applications will be considered and with remote/hybrid working, relocation to the region is not required for this post.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
