Contract Type: Permanent (Full-Time and Part-Time Available)

Working Pattern: Clinic-Based / Hybrid

Salary: £30,000 - £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

This dynamic team delivers high-quality, evidence-based diagnostic assessments for children and young people, collaborating closely with NHS-funded referrals and private pathways to provide exceptional care.


Role Overview

We are seeking qualified Occupational Therapists for full-time and part-time roles within our client's Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team based in Exeter. This clinic-based/hybrid position is perfect for professionals dedicated to conducting diagnostic assessments for neurodevelopmental conditions, particularly autism and ADHD.

You will join a passionate and supportive multidisciplinary team dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people. Working with cutting-edge digital workflows and smart report-writing tools, you'll be equipped to focus on what matters most: delivering exceptional care to children, young people and their families.

You will perform comprehensive assessments using established diagnostic tools such as ADOS-2 and ADI-R, conduct developmental history interviews, participate in MDT diagnostic discussions, and deliver clear, compassionate feedback to families. Responsibilities include producing accurate clinical reports with diagnostic formulations, meeting service KPIs, and depending on experience, providing clinical supervision to junior team members.


Key Responsibilities

Conducting face-to-face structured observations as part of the neurodevelopmental assessment process

Conducting remote developmental history interviews with parents and carers via Zoom

Participating collaboratively in peer MDT diagnostic discussions, supported by senior clinicians where needed

Delivering clear, compassionate feedback to families

Producing accurate clinical reports, including diagnostic formulations, with the help of smart tools

Working efficiently to meet service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Delivering clinical supervision (where applicable)

Travelling to the Exeter clinic base to conduct in-person assessments


Essential Requirements

HCPC Registration as an Occupational Therapist (minimum 1 year professional registration)

Minimum of 1 year experience conducting diagnostic assessments for autism and/or ADHD in children and young people

Trained and experienced in the use of diagnostic tools such as ADOS-2, ADI-R

In-depth knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for autism and ADHD

Strong understanding of differential diagnosis in neurodevelopmental presentations

Effective time management and caseload organisation skills, with the ability to manage competing demands and meet clinical deadlines

Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and participate in collaborative diagnostic discussions

Highly developed written language skills used to produce high-quality clinical reports

Well-developed communication skills with children, young people, and their families, ensuring compassionate, clear, and professional interactions throughout the assessment process

Must be eligible to work in the UK


Desirable Experience

Experience with sensory or functional assessments

Clinical supervision experience

Additional qualifications in relevant areas
