Research Fellow in Name-Studies
Would you like to join a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional team working on the Valor ecclesiasticus, the nationwide survey of Church property and income commissioned by Henry VIII?
We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to join the research team on Rediscovering the Tudor Domesday: evaluating historic data to deepen understanding of the making of regional environments, economies & communities, a three-year project funded by the AHRC. You would work alongside academic staff in the Institute for Name-Studies based in the School of English, and in collaboration with colleagues from the Universities of Exeter and Reading and The National Archives.
You would contribute to the production and annotation of a new openly accessible digital record of the survey, with specific responsibility for the analysis of place- and personal name material, and of the historical landscape.
You will have:
A PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area (Name-Studies, History, English) or the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience in the research area.
Demonstrable competence in name-studies and the ability to read texts in Latin and in English from the medieval and early modern periods.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and be competent with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, GIS.
You will be willing to acquire or develop competence in XML.
