The Role
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Band 8a Orthopaedic Extended Scope Physiotherapist to play a key role within our dynamic Orthopaedic team. The position requires expert autonomous practice, advanced diagnostic reasoning, and the ability to manage complex orthopaedic presentations across a diverse patient caseload.
As an integral member of the Orthopaedic team, you will provide specialist assessment and management, including advanced imaging interpretation, injection therapy (where appropriate), and support decision‑making for surgical and non‑surgical pathways. You will work collaboratively with Orthopaedic Consultants, other stakeholders, and wider MDT colleagues to drive high‑quality, timely, and patient‑centred care. In addition to expert clinical practice, you will lead on service development initiatives, contribute to pathway redesign, support governance activity, and provide clinical leadership, education, and mentorship across the Orthopaedic workforce. This role offers the opportunity to help shape strategic service improvements and influence the future direction of Orthopaedic care within the organisation.
In This Key Role, You Will
* Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including direct and indirect patient care and work outside the normal scope of practice of a physiotherapist.
* Assess capacity, gain valid consent, and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent.
* Act independently to assess, analyse clinical and non‑clinical information, and provide specialist and comprehensive clinical diagnosis for individual patients, including those with complex presentations.
* Determine the necessity for additional investigations, physiotherapy interventions, or referral to other disciplines, including assessment/treatment by rheumatologists or an orthopaedic surgeon, and advise patients on surgical intervention where appropriate.
What You’ll Bring
* Registered physiotherapist with valid HCPC registration.
* Educated to or working towards or operating at Masters level.
* Demonstrated knowledge of NHS Scotland’s Leadership Qualities framework or an equivalent framework.
* Management knowledge gained through experience and continuous professional development.
* A full UK/EU/EEA driving licence.
