Senior Civils Design Engineer
to lead and develop a talented design team in Crewe. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this role is ideal for a proactive professional with strong technical expertise and proven experience in rail civil engineering projects. About the Role: As Senior Design Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality, compliant, and safe design solutions across rail – Civil and Structural. You’ll manage the full design lifecycle—from feasibility studies through to project close-out—while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to continual improvement across the business. Key Responsibilities: Lead the delivery of design projects within time and budget constraints Produce and check design documentation including drawings, reports, specifications, and risk assessments Undertake site inspections, surveys, and investigations Champion compliance with British and European Standards, CDM 2015, and Safe by Design principles Act as Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) where required Support business development by attending client meetings and representing the company Mentor, train, and manage junior members of the team The ideal candidate: Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related subject Membership of a relevant professional institution (ICE, IStructE, PWI, etc.) Strong understanding of the railway environment and civil engineering design delivery Demonstrated experience leading or managing design teams Knowledge of relevant safety legislation and standards PTS card (or ability to obtain) Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills Desirable: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status CAD proficiency and experience with electronic project systems Qualifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH Managing Safely, or First Aid at Work BIM awareness or experience Why Join?
