Turnaround Intervention Worker - Youth Justice Team (YJT)
Overview
We are recruiting a Turnaround Intervention Worker to support children and young people in Somerset. You will work within the Youth Offending Service and alongside the Somerset Violence Reduction Unit to help keep children safely in school wherever possible.
What you will be doing
* Work within the Youth Offending Service and alongside the Somerset Violence Reduction Unit to keep children safely in school wherever possible.
* Target interventions and provide support packages to children in mainstream secondary schools who are at risk of multiple temporary exclusions, or managed moves due to reasons associated with violence or exploitation.
* This may include work where concerns are raised regarding weapon possession or substance misuse either in school or the community.
* Support young people identified through Education Safeguarding and the Violence Reduction Unit to address risk factors and motivations that led to their situation.
Responsibilities
• Target interventions and develop support packages for at-risk children in mainstream secondary schools.
• Collaborate with partners to maintain safe school attendance where possible.
• Engage with young people to address risk factors and motivations related to violence or exploitation.
Qualifications and experience
* a minimum 5 A–C grades at GCSE, level 4–7 or equivalent, including English and Maths
* a relevant vocational qualification (or significant equivalent knowledge) at a minimum of Level 3 NVQ, with evidence of continuing professional development in a relevant field
* a willingness to engage in ongoing training, development and supervision
* experience and skills in working with children and young people one-to-one and in group settings
* experience in a relevant field (youth work, probation, education, health or criminal justice)
* a working knowledge of primary legislation relating to youth criminal justice

Additional information
Salary range: £28,598 – £32,061 per annum.
DBS information: This post requires a criminal background check via the Disclosure procedure.
There is a requirement to have access to a vehicle with business insurance, as some time will be spent in the community completing direct interventions with children, young people and families.
