Job Summary The Fetal Medicine midwife (post holder) will provide specialist care within the Fetal Medicine team, ensuring the safe, efficient and effective provision of services in line with the Trust’s vision.
Responsibilities
Support the daily delivery of women/birthing people centred care services relating to Fetal Medicine and the FASP, including screening pathways for Down’s syndrome, Edwards’ syndrome, Patau's syndrome and other fetal anomalies.
Provide specialist midwifery advice and pre‑ and post‑screening counselling, coordinating referrals and investigations.
Coordinate liaison with the multidisciplinary team and tertiary fetal medicine services, ensuring continuity of care and support where higher chance results, suspected anomalies or confirmed diagnoses arise.
Provide a sensitive, systematic approach to the management and counselling of women/birthing people concerning testing, high‑risk results or diagnosis of abnormality.
Develop effective working relationships within the wider antenatal and newborn screening team, supporting safe and consistent practice in line with NHS Antenatal and Newborn Screening Programme policies, standards, guidance and local pathways.
Expectations The post holder must demonstrate resilience and the ability to cope with personal accountability alongside varied demands, providing specialist support and counselling to women considering antenatal screening and diagnostic testing, and supporting them following results.
