About the role
Do you have a passion for science? Would you like a hands-on role in a laboratory? Then this apprenticeship could be for you
Imperial College London is a science-based university with an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. Our Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship Scheme is an exciting opportunity to work alongside talented science technicians in our Departments of Bioengineering and Chemistry and to build the knowledge and skills needed to support world-class teaching and research, kickstarting your own technical career.
What you would be doing
Apprentices will experience a range of cutting-edge research and teaching facilities within two of our most exciting areas, Bioengineering and Chemistry. You will be trained by experienced colleagues to support the smooth running of research laboratories and to help prepare and set up laboratory classes. This will be underpinned by a special programme of practical and classroom-based sessions, fully aligned to the level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship standard. As well as earning a competitive salary, you will build a range of technical skills and gain a formal qualification that will help you in your future career.
What we are looking for
Applicants will need (or expect to gain) grade 9–4 (A*-C) at GCSE in English, Maths and Science. No prior work experience is required. We are looking for people who are passionate about science and can:
* Work well in a team and contribute positively to group tasks.
* Explain why an apprenticeship suits their career goals over other routes.
* Are motivated, curious, and eager to learn.
To be considered for interview, applicants must submit a supporting statement. Your supporting statement should:
* Tell us why this apprenticeship is right for you and how it fits your ambitions.
* Highlight your teamwork skills, motivation, and interest in lab science.
* Be personal and authentic. AI-generated or generic statements are discouraged.
What we can offer you
* The opportunity to kickstart your technical career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to use science for humanity.
* Benefit from a sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 41 days' annual leave and generous pension schemes).
* Interest-free season ticket loan schemes for travel.
* Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.
