The Social Worker Safeguarding position within Adult Social Care at Peterborough City Council focuses on safeguarding adults at risk. The role is central to the council's proactive, preventative, and personalised approach to social care, aiming to empower individuals to live independent, healthy, and fulfilled lives.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding Duties
Act as the first responder to adult safeguarding concerns.
Review and prioritise incoming safeguarding referrals.
Conduct information gathering and determine appropriate actions (e.g., signposting, initiating Section 42 enquiries).
Handle MARM (Multi-Agency Risk Management) and PIPOT (Person in Position of Trust) enquiries.
Undertake safeguarding enquiries and provide guidance to colleagues and partner agencies.
Professional Standards
Adhere to Social Work England standards and PCC's values (Working Together, Integrity, Respect, Excellence).
Maintain accurate records.
Act as an ambassador for the profession.

The Safeguarding Team sits within Adult Social Care, part of Adult Services at Peterborough City Council. The team is dedicated to protecting adults at risk and promoting independence, wellbeing, and personalised care.
Team Structure
Team Manager – Oversees the team and provides strategic leadership.
Senior Social Worker Safeguarding – Supports complex cases and provides guidance to social workers.
Social Worker Safeguarding – Frontline professionals responsible for safeguarding enquiries and broader social work duties.
The team is responsible for:
Responding to safeguarding concerns received by the local authority.
Conducting safeguarding enquiries under Section 42 of the Care Act.
Managing risk and ensuring individuals are protected from harm while respecting their rights.
Supporting multi-agency working, including MARM and PIPOT processes.
Providing professional advice to internal colleagues and external partners.

Essential Knowledge & Skills
Strong understanding of adult safeguarding legislation and personalisation.
Ability to assess risk, manage complex cases, and communicate effectively.
Skilled in building rapport, prioritising tasks, and using IT systems.
Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Experience
Multi-disciplinary team working.
Risk assessment and intervention planning.
Desirable: experience in data management, negotiation, and multi-agency collaboration.
Qualifications & Registration
Recognised Social Work qualification.
Current registration with Social Work England.
