Job Details

Under the guidance of Dr Irene Chong, we are seeking to recruit a Clinical Research Fellow in Clinical Oncology (GI Unit) to contribute to support a multicentre clinical trial evaluating the efficacy of IMRT radiotherapy to the pancreas and coeliac plexus for the management of pain in pancreatic cancer patients. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving recruitment to the study, provide clinical oversight, aid with data analysis and publishing the results of the trial.

About You

The successful candidate must have:

* Full GMC registration with a license to practice,
* MBBS or acceptable equivalent,
* FRCR Part 1,
* MRCP or acceptable equivalent,
* At least 2 years experience in clinical oncology at SpR level in a recognised Cancer Center/Unit,
* Experience in IMRT.

Clinical Oncology: GI Unit

Our GI/lymphoma unit is world renowned for excellence in clinical care and clinical research. It comprises a multidisciplinary team of medical oncologists, clinical oncologists, palliative care physicians, clinician scientists, specialist nurses, dieticians, research nurses, trial coordinators, data managers and biological specimen coordinators. It has access to state-of-the-art facilities for all investigations and treatments utilizing expert histopathology, radiology and nuclear medicine services, including MRI and PET/CT.

Advancing excellence in patient care and outcomes through the latest clinical research lies at the core of the GI/lymphoma unit. The GI/lymphoma unit has an international track record in devising and delivering internationally practice changing and impactful research. The unit has a large portfolio of both academic and commercial clinical studies and all patients are offered the chance to enter a clinical trial if available. GI research-specific clinics are conducted weekly at both the Sutton and the Chelsea site. The Sutton site hosts the new West Wing Clinical Research Centre where all GI patients participating in a clinical trial are reviewed.

A substantial number of translational studies are undertaken in conjunction with laboratory teams at the Centre for Molecular Pathology (CMP) (where molecular diagnostics are undertaken to clinical accreditation standards) and with appropriate teams within the ICR, especially in the laboratories of the clinician scientists who are associated with the unit. Interdisciplinary projects and team work in research are encouraged and supported by the GI/lymphoma unit. The team holds a weekly clinical research meeting to review patients on trials, the trials portfolio, clinical research presentations, audits and the results of service evaluations. There is also a bi-weekly translational meeting to review translational projects and new data. The ICR also hosts academic lectures.

The substantial GI research team spans both sites of the hospital and includes the consultants as principal investigators, the GI clinical research Head of Operations, a team of GI research fellows, research nurses, trial managers, trial coordinators, a translational research manager, biological specimen coordinators and clinical trial administrators working together to support the academic and commercial research portfolio.
