In July Richmond Council and Wandsworth Council declared Climate Emergencies, following this Wandsworth Council published its Environment and Sustainability Strategy in July and Richmond published its Climate Emergency Strategy in January. Both strategies are underpinned by ambitious action plans that involve services across the whole organisation.
These action plans cover the operations of both councils, the estates of both councils, reducing carbon emissions from the borough as a whole, improving the climate resilience of both boroughs as well as engagement and behaviour change programmes which look to involve residents, local groups, local businesses and partners in taking action to improve the environment and reduce carbon emissions.
This role will support the delivery of the two strategies and their supporting action plans. The postholder will support the delivery of individual actions, including projects and engagement activities, working closely with the wider Climate Change and Sustainability Team as well as other teams across the organisation.
Responsibilities include:
1. Staying up to speed on the latest climate and sustainability developments and bringing that to the team and the organisation.
2. Identifying projects from climate action plans, developing plans, and delivering them to maximize impact.
3. Identifying funding opportunities and developing bids to support ambitious climate action plans.
4. Working in partnership with teams within the organization and external partners to support and deliver projects.
5. Working as part of a supportive and positive team, delivering high-priority work for both councils.
Requirements:
* An in-depth understanding of the climate change and sustainability agenda, particularly in local government contexts.
* Experience in delivering climate change or sustainability-related projects.
* Strong project planning and prioritization skills.
* Ability to manage a complex workload and adapt to changing needs and priorities.
* Skills in collaborating across different departments within an organization and with external partners.
