PHP Developer
Hybrid – Outside IR35
We’re looking for a hands-on PHP Developer to support ongoing development within our clients portal and to assist with systems decommissioning as part of wider integration work. This is a full stack role, covering both front-end and back-end, requiring someone who is comfortable working with core PHP in environments that don’t always have neat documentation.
You’ll be joining a small, dedicated team during a period of transition, so we need someone who can hit the ground running, pick up brownfield projects quickly, and focus on business outcomes as much as code quality.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain PHP applications (PHP 7 & 8) within predominantly custom frameworks.
2. Upgrade an existing project from Zend (now Laminas) to a newer version.
3. Support the decommissioning of legacy systems alongside ongoing business change.
4. Work across the stack: PHP, MySQL 8, HTML, JavaScript, CSS.
5. Investigate and resolve issues where the in-house team are focused on BAU commitments.
6. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into solutions.
What We’re Looking For
7. Strong background in core PHP development
8. Experience with brownfield projects, including systems with limited or no documentation.
9. Practical knowledge of MySQL 8 and HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
10. Ability to understand user and business needs, not just technical requirements.
11. Problem-solvers who can work independently, manage ambiguity, and deliver value quickly.
