Job Title: Head of Employment Tax
Salary: £75,300-£100,800 per annum
Location: Cambridge, Hybrid
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time (35 hours per week)
About The Role
The Head of Employment Tax reports to the Global Tax Director and leads the business’ approach to UK and international employment tax issues, driving strategy, policy contribution, and process development. The role oversees an Employment Tax Manager and collaborates with payroll, people/reward, legal, and finance to manage and promote awareness of tax issues and changes.
Monitor, identify, and sign off employment status reviews, issuing Status Determination Statements for PSC contractors.
Manage business queries and challenges on contractor status, serving as escalation point for status challenges/appeals.
Play a leading cross‑business role in strategy and policy development and system improvement.
Maintain awareness of evolving tax case law in employment status area.
Roll out awareness and education programs for business stakeholders.
Conduct long‑term review of engagement approach to Examination Specialists.
Lead tax discussions on business and personal mobility requests, including role or individual transitions overseas.
Liaise with people, legal, tax, payroll and finance to ensure smooth mobility operations and risk management.
Monitor mobility policy and processes aligned with global expansion.
Ensure ongoing compliance for mobile employees (tax, social security, short‑term overseas visitation, short‑term visitor reporting).
Engage advisors where required to obtain appropriate advice.
Annual PAYE settlement agreement (PSA) reporting.
Oversight of P11D reporting.
Monitor tax treatment of employee benefits (UK and International).
US reporting including Form 1099.
Assist with termination and settlement agreements.
About You
We seek a leader and expert in employment tax and/or global mobility tax who can brief and influence stakeholders at all levels, articulating complex issues and their business impact.
Significant experience in employment taxes or global mobility taxation.
Professional tax or accounting qualification (CTA or similar), or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of latest developments in employment status and international tax affecting mobility.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects or workstreams to demanding deadlines in a complex environment.
Strong relationship‑building skills across all levels, including senior stakeholders.
Excellent organisational skills and self‑motivation, able to coordinate multiple assignments.
