Role: HSE Manager
We are looking for a passionate and proactive Health, Safety and Environment Manager for a large, complex, fast‑paced site. The role sits within the site leadership team and involves leading large‑scale improvement projects, driving a more proactive and engaged culture, strengthening communication across departments, and embedding proactive safety behaviours. The position also allows involvement in group‑wide peer‑to‑peer reviews of other sites.
Duties:
* Serve as the HSE subject‑matter expert on site, supporting the General Manager and wider leadership team and acting as a key member of the HSE department for the wider group.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of the HSE strategy and site improvement plan.
* Be visible, approachable, and offer hands‑on support through site walk rounds, coaching and mentoring the wider workforce and gaining buy‑in from the leadership team.
* Embed a proactive and positive HSE culture on site, moving away from reactive and desk‑based support.
* Ensure company‑wide health, safety and environmental improvements are implemented locally and at the site level, with consideration for site‑specific needs.
* Review site‑level reports to identify actionable insights, corrective actions and emerging risks.
* Mentor and coach operational managers to develop their HSE leadership and management capability.
* Provide professional advice to achieve compliance with relevant legislation and internal standards.
* Manage triage of site incidents, delegate incident investigations and lead accident investigations where appropriate.
* Monitor audit outcomes and reviews, ensuring corrective actions are raised and implemented by the site leadership team.
* Manage emergency planning and business continuity arrangements in partnership with operational teams.
* Build and maintain respectful relationships with local trade‑union H&S representatives.
* Support the business in managing and defending the site’s insurance claims.
* Act as the primary contact for external agencies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Personality Fit:
* Proactive and passionate but down‑to‑earth, adaptable, self‑motivated and confident.
* Good at engaging and empowering others, driving accountability and ownership.
* Strong communication skills – able to collaborate, influence and gain buy‑in.
Essential Qualifications and Background:
* NEBOSH Certificate, ideally from a fast‑paced environment within warehouse, logistics, retail, manufacturing or similar.
* Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Comfortable presenting to the leadership team.
