Overview
We are currently recruiting an Associate Building Surveyor to assist with building consultancy services for commercial clients across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Bruton Knowles offers a hybrid working environment, including home working options.
Main Responsibilities
The role involves promoting and developing the Building Consultancy Team, supporting the Gloucester team and the wider firm, and achieving targeted fee income. A key focus is to establish strong client relationships, deliver exceptional services, and grow the business through new client instructions.
Duties include:
* Preparing specifications, tendering, and contract administration services.
* Handling statutory approval applications.
* Monitoring projects on behalf of lenders.
* Preparing feasibility studies and sketch schemes for various building types.
* Developing Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedules.
* Negotiating schedules of dilapidations.
* Preparing schedules of condition.
* Handling Party Wall Act notices and agreements.
* Performing professional work based on experience.
* Supporting junior team members.
Person Specification
A confident, proactive team member capable of working independently, managing client relationships, and meeting deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with high attention to detail for producing clear reports and recommendations.
Qualifications & Experience:
Must be a qualified Member of RICS (MRICS) with 5 years PQE, possessing:
* Experience in pre-acquisition building surveys and schedules of condition.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with CAD is a plus.
* Knowledge of planning and building regulation applications.
* Experience in building design, refurbishment, and contract administration.
* Ability to analyze building pathology and prepare technical reports.
* Experience with dilapidation claims and lease covenants.
* Party Wall Act experience.
* Reinstatement cost assessments.
* Knowledge of health and safety procedures, CDM, and DDA.
