Job Title: Electrician
Location: HMP Altcourse
Purpose of the Role:
The Electrician will provide essential electrical installation, testing, examination, and maintenance services within the prison environment. The role involves supporting the Maintenance Team Leader and collaborating with allied trades to ensure all electrical systems operate efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Carry out repairs and preventative maintenance on electrical systems within the establishment.
2. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, ensuring compliance with relevant trade standards (18th Edition).
3. Perform scheduled maintenance services on electrical systems and fixtures.
4. Conduct out-of-hours call-outs on an "On Call" rota system and respond appropriately.
5. Escort specialist contractors and support their work as required.
6. Ensure that all installations, repairs, and maintenance activities meet the necessary codes of practice.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Ensure the safe and compliant operation of all electrical systems through regular maintenance and repairs.
2. Complete detailed records of all work carried out, including identification of any defective equipment.
3. Maintain a proactive approach to Health and Safety and support a strong safety culture.
4. Support the team in achieving operational goals and maintaining efficient electrical systems.
Required Skills and Experience:
1. Proven experience in fault finding, installation, and repairs.
2. Knowledge of commercial electrical repairs, including HVAC, AHU, controls, and BMS systems is an advantage.
3. Experience in testing, inspection, and PAT testing.
4. Strong understanding and commitment to Health and Safety practices.
5. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
6. Qualified to 18th Edition (BS 7671).
