Main duties of the job
As an Assistant Psychologist at The Dean Neurological Centre, you will be tasked with working alongside individuals who have neurological conditions, potentially stemming from brain or spinal cord injuries. This role involves addressing various conditions such as depression, self‑harm, and psychological distress, including trauma. Your responsibilities will include assisting with assessments, formulations, and treatment plans for service users under the supervision of a Senior Psychologist. Additionally, you will support clinical administration tasks like conducting audits, collecting statistics, and contributing to both teaching and research projects. The role also emphasizes professional growth with opportunities for skill specialization and career development within a supportive team environment. Your duties will extend to facilitating psychological interventions, contributing to psychological assessments, and maintaining clinical databases.
Job responsibilities
* Contributing to psychological assessments and formulations
* Facilitating psychological interventions on a 1:1 and/or group basis to service users, monitoring and reporting upon their effectiveness
* Assisting in designing and delivering specialist training to others
* Assisting with the delivery of reflective practice for staff
* Maintaining clinical databases
* Completing outcome measures
* Writing reports for various audiences
* Service evaluation and other research tasks including collecting, analysing, and reporting upon an array of statistics
* Undertaking clinically relevant audits
Qualifications & requirements
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* A minimum of an upper second‑class honours degree in Psychology conferring eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)
* Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist in a forensic and/or mental health setting in a similar role
* Experience of maintaining office systems and undertaking administration tasks
* Creative thinking, clinical efficacy, and a strong commitment to working with evidence‑based models of therapeutic intervention
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* To meet professional practice expectations including the HCPC standards of conduct, performance and ethics, and the BPS code of ethics and conduct

The Dean Neurological Centre has 60 beds and delivers specialist 24‑hour nursing and therapy services for people with complex long‑term neurological conditions. It specialises in slow‑stream rehabilitation with an emphasis on maximising each individual's abilities, comfort and quality of life. The facility includes high‑dependency equipment, therapy facilities, gardens, gym and a minibus.
