Freelance or Permanent – Immediate Start Available We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Groundworks Project Manager to join our team in Exeter on a freelance (contract) or permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive leader who thrives in a fast-paced site environment and can hit the ground running immediately. Key Responsibilities: Take full charge of on-site operations for groundworks projects Manage and coordinate up to 12 machines (excavators, dumpers, etc.) and associated plant/equipment Oversee all associated groundworks activities, including: Drainage installation and systems Slabbing, paving, and external surfacing Shuttering, formwork, and concrete works Excavation, foundations, sub-structures, and related tasks Lead and supervise site teams, subcontractors, and operatives to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery Monitor progress against programme, manage daily resources, and resolve any on-site issues promptly Ensure full compliance with health & safety regulations, site-specific risk assessments, and company procedures Liaise with clients, engineers, and other stakeholders to maintain strong communication and project alignment Control costs, materials, and labour to keep projects on budget and on schedule Requirements: Proven experience as a Project Manager (or Site Manager/Supervisor) in groundworks, civils, or heavy construction projects Strong practical knowledge of groundworks disciplines: drainage, slabs/paving, shuttering, foundations, and machine management Experience managing multiple machines and large site teams Excellent organisational and leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams Sound understanding of CDM regulations, health & safety best practices, and site management Full UK driving licence (preferred) CSCS card (Black or Gold) and relevant certifications (SMSTS, First Aid, etc.) advantageous Immediate availability preferred – start ASAP!
