Job Overview

Are you an enthusiastic, creative and inspiring Teacher of Craft, Design & Technology with the skills, confidence and energy to make a positive impact on the lives of our children and young people? If so, the Shetland Islands Council is offering an exciting opportunity to work at the excellently resourced Mid Yell Junior High School, Yell and Baltasound Junior High School, Unst.

Mid Yell Junior High School

Mid Yell Junior High School is a non‑denominational school located in Mid Yell, Yell. It provides nursery, primary and secondary education up to S4 for children from Central, Mid and East Yell for Primary and the whole island of Yell for Secondary. The structure of the school is 1 nursery class, 2 composite primary classes and a class for each of the S1‑4 years. There is currently a total of 90 pupils on the roll. The school is managed by a Head Teacher and 1 Depute Head Teacher. The current staffing complement is 16 teachers assisted by support staff as required to meet school demands. Baltasound Junior High School

Baltasound Junior High School is a non‑denominational school located in Unst. It provides nursery, primary and secondary education up to S4 for children from the island of Unst. The structure of the school is 1 nursery, 3 composite primary classes and S1‑4 classes. There is currently a total of 95 pupils on the roll. The school is managed by a Head Teacher and 1 Depute Head Teacher. The current staffing complement is 15 teachers assisted by support staff as required to meet school demands. Candidate Requirements

* Hold registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) or be in the process of obtaining such registration.
* Teaching qualification and registration with GTCS in the appropriate subject area.
* Vision, energy, initiative, good communication skills and self‑discipline.
* Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment.
* Flexible route probationers are welcome.


Post Details

* Grade of post: TCHR
* Salary: inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,997 per annum (pro rata)
* Permanent full‑time post for 35.0 Hours per Week
* FTE of post: 1.0
* Class information: Secondary classes S1 – S4, up to National 5 level
* Sector/subject specialism: Technical – Woodwork, Graphic Communication
* Relocation package applies.
* Interview expenses paid from within the UK.
* Flexible working arrangements possible.


Other Information

This is a peripatetic post based at Mid Yell Junior High School. The post holder will work 3 days at Mid Yell Junior High School and 2 days at Baltasound Junior High School.
