The Role
We are looking for an experienced, commercially minded Senior Bookkeeper to build and run our financial services offer from the ground up. This is not a back-office processing role. It's a client-facing, service-building position for someone who wants to own something, develop it, and see it grow.
You'll be responsible for 2 interconnected areas:
1. Bookkeeping services for our letting agent client base
Our agents outsource their client accounting to us. Many of them need more than rent processing, they need VAT returns, accounts, reconciliation and general bookkeeping support. You will develop and deliver that service across our existing client base, building a tiered offer that generates meaningful recurring revenue.
2. Making Tax Digital compliance services for landlords
MTD for Income Tax is being rolled out from April 2026. Our platform already holds the rent and expenditure data for thousands of landlords across our agent portfolio. You will work closely with our product and operations teams to scope, shape and deliver an MTD compliance service that turns data we already hold into a service landlords genuinely need, at a price point that undercuts the accountancy market significantly.
What You\'ll Be Doing
* Designing and delivering a tiered bookkeeping service for letting agents: covering VAT returns, accounts preparation, bank reconciliations, reconciliation and financial reporting
* Onboarding agents onto the bookkeeping service and managing those relationships on an ongoing basis
* Working with the product team to define the requirements for our MTD income and expenditure reporting service, including data inputs, HMRC category mapping, output formats and landlord-facing delivery
* Acting as the internal subject matter expert on MTD ITSA, staying current on HMRC guidance, rollout timelines and compliance requirements
* Identifying and managing exceptions: income or expenditure outside our platform, multi-agent landlords, edge cases in MTD categorisation
* Building internal processes and documentation so the service scales without scaling the headcount proportionally
* Providing clear, jargon-free financial guidance to agents and their landlords: you are the expert in the room and you communicate like one
* Contributing to pricing, packaging and commercial decisions as the service develops
What We Are Looking For
* AAT qualified, or QBE with demonstrable practice-level experience
* Solid bookkeeping and management accounts experience: you can produce a set of management accounts and a VAT return without being supervised
* Working knowledge of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax: you understand what it requires, who it applies to and what compliance looks like in practice
* Experience working in or with a professional services or practice environment, you understand client management as well as numbers
* Comfortable with cloud accounting software: Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent or equivalent
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple client relationships simultaneously
* Clear and confident written and verbal communication
* Experience in the property, lettings or estate agency sector
* Exposure to client money accounting or letting agent financial workflows
* Experience building or improving a financial service from scratch rather than inheriting an established one
* Familiarity with HMRC agent authorisation processes
What We Offer
* Salary of £40,000–£50,000 depending on experience
* Office-based role with a collaborative, fast-moving team
* A genuinely varied role with real ownership from day one
* The opportunity to build a new service line in a growing business rather than maintain someone else\'s processes
* Direct access to senior leadership and genuine influence over how the service develops
