Job Purpose
As VP – AI Platform & Engineering, you’ll lead the next phase of RoleMapper’s AI evolution, turning research and experimentation into production‑grade ML features and scalable systems that power fair compensation and workforce agility.
You’ll guide a small, high‑performing team across ML, NLP, and platform engineering to design, build and deploy models that deliver measurable impact for enterprise customers, while shaping the architecture and infrastructure that keep our SaaS platform secure, reliable and enterprise‑ready.
Early priorities include delivering a new classification‑based ML capability and evolving our data model toward a knowledge‑graph architecture, setting the foundations for a more intelligent, explainable and defensible product.
Combining strategy with hands‑on leadership, you’ll build the team, systems and innovation engine that drive our next phase of growth and position RoleMapper at the forefront of AI in work design.
Responsibilities
As a VP – AI Platform & Engineering within our Product and Tech team, you will be responsible for:
* Translating product vision into a feasible, scalable AI & Technology roadmap
* Leading the design and scaling of RoleMapper’s AI and platform architecture, combining strategic vision with hands‑on execution.
* Ensuring fit‑for‑purpose processes for security, compliance, and reliability as we scale.
* Leading and scaling high‑performing ML & Technology Team
* Representing our technology to customers, partners & investors and across the company
* Playing a key role in our senior leadership team
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Experience in leading and growing ML/Data and Technology teams.
* A “product focused” approach with a background in data‑heavy SaaS and/or B2B Enterprise platforms
* Collaborative, skilled communicator with ability to influence non‑technical audiences.
* Commercially savvy with a startup mindset: hands‑on, innovative, pragmatic, delivery‑oriented.
You will also have:
* A proactive, hands‑on mindset — comfortable working at pace and in a fast‑changing environment.
* Clear and confident communication skills, able to explain technical ideas to non‑technical audiences.

Salary & Benefits
Salary range: up to £120k plus share options.
In addition to 25 days of holiday we have a paid shutdown period between Christmas and New Year which equates to an additional 3 to 5 days, depending on where the holidays land.

Location
While our “official” registered office is in Exeter, we all work remotely across different locations. We have regular team working‑together days in Exeter & London, so you would need to live/work somewhere reasonably accessible to one or more of these locations. If you prefer working in an office, we offer flexible memberships to regional workspaces.

* Initial recruiter call to provide an overview of the company, the role and get an understanding of your background and fit for the role
* VP Customer Success & CPO Interview - providing more details on the company, our strategy, the role and a deep dive into you and your alignment to the specific requirements for the role
* Meet the CEO & Founder
* Psychometric assessment (Wave) ahead of the work‑based session
* Meet the team – a chance to meet the people you will be working with and get to know us better
* Work‑based assessment - during the session, you’ll be asked to present your work on several specific tasks.
While there are quite a few steps, we try to do these as quickly as we can. We ideally aim for all of this to happen across a 2‑3 week period.
