Bring Music to Life in a School That Breaks the Mould
At Liberty Woodland School, we're reimagining education. As the UK's first fully outdoor school, our curriculum is hands-on, child-led, and rooted in project-based learning. Music plays a key role in nurturing creativity, confidence, and collaboration—and we're looking for a passionate Music Teacher to bring the joy of music to life for our learners.
This is a part-time fixed-term role for two terms that could involve teaching primary students only or both primary and secondary (Years 7–10), depending on your experience and interests. It's an exciting opportunity for a creative and engaging educator who wants to deliver meaningful, dynamic music education in an innovative, outdoor-first environment.
What You Will Do
* Teach inspiring and inclusive music lessons that spark creativity, rhythm, and self-expression.
* Plan and deliver lessons that cover a broad range of musical styles, instruments, and experiences, tailored to students' developmental stages.
* Provide opportunities for students to compose, perform, and explore music through voice, percussion, and instruments.
* Where applicable, design MYP-aligned music units that support the IB framework for Years 7–10.
* Encourage student-led exploration, ensemble work, and performance-based learning.
* Collaborate with teaching staff to integrate music into cross-curricular projects and school events.
* Use 90 minutes of PPA time for planning, reflection, and preparation to ensure high-quality delivery.
* Support school-wide creative initiatives such as concerts, showcases, and assemblies.
Who You Are
* A qualified music teacher with experience teaching primary-aged children (and ideally secondary students too).
* Confident in teaching a variety of musical disciplines, from singing and rhythm to composition and performance.
* Passionate about inclusive, creative music education that celebrates different styles and cultures.
* An innovative and adaptable teacher, comfortable delivering lessons both indoors and outdoors.
* Familiar with or excited to learn about the IB MYP framework (training and support provided if needed).
* A team player who thrives in a collaborative, child-centred environment.
Why Join Liberty Woodland School?
* A unique chance to deliver music education outdoors, surrounded by creativity and nature.
* A supportive, future-focused team that believes in doing things differently.
* Regular professional development and opportunities to grow within the role.
* A beautiful setting, project-based learning approach, and a curriculum that values emotional intelligence and self-expression as much as academic progress.
* A thoughtfully designed induction programme to help you settle in.
* Regular, high-quality CPD opportunities linked to our School Development Plan.
* Support from experienced co-teachers and the senior leadership team.
* A comprehensive well-being programme, including free Employee Assistance Programme membership and a health cash plan.
* 35 weeks of teaching time per year, plus 12 days of CPD and preparation.
Our Commitment to Safeguarding
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check in addition to other vetting checks and will also must be able to provide satisfactory references. All school staff complete Safeguarding training, both during induction and on an ongoing basis.
Whether you're a primary specialist or have the skills to stretch into secondary music teaching, we'd love to hear from you.
