We’re working with a successful and growing, multi-disciplinary design & build consultancy in Portsmouth looking to appoint a Principal Structural Engineer to play a key role within the business.
This is a great opportunity for either an established Principal or a Senior Structural Engineer ready to step up. You’ll take ownership of projects, lead from a technical perspective and support the wider team across a varied and interesting workload.
You’ll have plenty of autonomy, a strong level of trust and the backing of an established consultancy without unnecessary layers of red tape.
The Role
🔹 Lead structural projects from concept through to completion
🔹 Act as the key technical lead within the team
🔹 Mentor and support junior engineers
🔹 Deliver designs, calculations and technical documentation
🔹 Manage client relationships and represent the business professionally
🔹 Support tenders, surveys and feasibility work
🔹 Ensure compliance with current standards and regulations
🔹 Work with BIM / 3D modelling tools to deliver efficiently
What They’re Looking For
✅ Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
✅ Strong experience across structural design projects
✅ Chartered or working towards (IStructE)
✅ Good working knowledge of UK regulations and standards
✅ Confident dealing with clients and stakeholders
✅ Experience with software such as Revit, AutoCAD and Civil 3D
✅ Able to run projects and take ownership
✅ Ability to gain Security Clearance
Nice to Have
⭐ MEng or similar
⭐ BIM experience
⭐ Project/contract exposure
