Responsibilities:
1. Provide and facilitate expert-level knowledge in ultrasound.
2. Exercise professional autonomy to make decisions that improve patient outcomes and service delivery.
3. Participate in team leadership, education, audits, and develop innovative practices to identify service improvements.
4. Engage in Quality and Governance processes, including Datix, Quality Assurance, and Protocol review.
5. Mentor and support training and students.
6. Assist the management team in achieving departmental goals.
7. Support compliance with Turnaround Targets and statutory requirements.
Candidate Profile:
We seek an experienced, highly motivated, dynamic, innovative, and professional individual to join our established team of Specialty Lead Sonographers, leading General and Gynaecological ultrasound services.
The successful candidate will have a flexible approach, a desire to develop and progress the ultrasound service, and support operational management ensuring appropriate workflows. A key aspect is managing inpatient flow and Rapid Access pathways to optimize service delivery and resource utilization. Collaboration within the team, leadership, and supporting education for Sonographers, Trainees, and Support Workers are essential. Candidates must hold a Post Graduate qualification in ultrasound and have extensive clinical experience in both acute and outpatient settings, with leadership and demand management experience.
About the Department:
The Imaging Department offers a range of General Medical Ultrasound services, managed from the Royal Stoke site, with services also provided from County Stafford and smaller community units. From April 2026, services will extend to the new Clinical Diagnostic Centre in Hanley. The department supports outpatient and inpatient services, including specialties such as vascular, paediatric, MSK, and Head & Neck. We are a large, modern, fast-paced, and dynamic department providing a 7-day service, including bank holidays on a rotational basis.
