Your new companyYou will be joining a well-established industrial organisation operating a complex, safety-critical manufacturing site in Ellesmere Port. The business places a strong emphasis on operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement, supported by experienced engineering and maintenance teams.
Your new roleAs Senior Utilities Technician, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining site-wide utilities to ensure they are operated safely, reliably, and efficiently. This includes boilers, cooling towers, chillers, air compressors, nitrogen systems, and associated infrastructure.You will play a key role in regulatory compliance, including Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR), boiler operations, and Legionella control (ACOP L8). Working closely with maintenance and reliability colleagues, you will lead improvements, manage specialist contractors, and ensure utilities performance supports uninterrupted production.The role is based on site in Ellesmere Port, working 8:00am-4:00pm, 37.5 hours per week, with participation in an on-call rota and overtime available.Key responsibilities include:
* Identifying, reporting, and actioning safety concerns using site systems
* Developing, reviewing, and maintaining SOPs for all utilities
* Monitoring, trending, and reporting utilities performance to prevent production impact
* Leading reliability, safety, and compliance improvements via projects and MOC processes
* Ensuring all PSSR inspections and statutory actions are completed on time
* Managing critical spares, costs, and maintenance planning through CMMS
* Coordinating and performance-managing external service providers
* Supporting the training and development of operations and maintenance personnel
What you'll need to succeedTo be successful in this role, you will bring strong technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to manage utilities in a high-hazard industrial environment.Technical experience and skills:
* 5-10 years' experience working with boilers in oil, gas, chemical, or similar industries
* Strong understanding of boiler legislation, standards, and safe operation
* Experience operating and maintaining boilers and utility systems
* Knowledge of water treatment systems, testing regimes, and chemical dosing
* Experience managing critical spares and maintenance costs
* Competence using CMMS systems
* Proven experience leading and coordinating external contractors
Qualifications:
* Recognised engineering apprenticeship
* IOSH or NEBOSH workplace safety qualification
* BOAS (Boiler Operation Accreditation Scheme) certification
* ACOP L8 Responsible Person awareness or working towards
