Interventional Radiology Nurse (Band 6 x 3) - Sutton site
Part-time @17 hours/week. Following the expansion of our Interventional Radiology (IR) service, we are building a pioneer IR nursing workforce at the new Royal Marsden IR Unit in Sutton. Applications are invited from nurses who are currently working independently in IR or from other clinical areas where transferrable skills are evident (e.g., endoscopy, cath lab, theatres, ICU). Successful applicants will rotate through different clinical areas within IR and demonstrate the required clinical skills, including assisting or scrubbing in the procedure room, providing nurse-led conscious sedation, and caring for patients in Stage 1 recovery.
Responsibilities
* Assist or scrub in the procedure room
* Provide nurse-led conscious sedation
* Care for patients in Stage 1 recovery
* Rotate through the different clinical areas within IR according to service needs
* Support and inform family members and carers who accompany patients for elective and emergency procedures
* Prepare equipment for the safe care of the patient during the procedure
* Communicate with other members of the interventional radiology team regarding the patient
* Identify and act upon potential hazards to patients and staff and take appropriate actions to prevent injury
* Be aware of various drugs used during the procedure, including contrast agents
* Discuss patients’ consents for procedures in line with local policy
* Ensure patient identification procedures are followed
Requirements / Qualifications
* Registration with the NMC and compliance with the Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice
* Evidence of personal accountability for nursing duties undertaken
* Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver a safe, efficient, and effective service
* Experience in IR or transfer from related clinical areas with transferrable skills (e.g., endoscopy, cath lab, theatres, ICU)
