Associate Director of Financial Transformation
to lead the transformation of our financial operations into the new joint group model.

The Associate Director of Financial Transformation is a key member of the group finance senior leadership team. This role is responsible for managing the transformation of the finance function, delivering the new group finance operating model. You will play a central role in shaping and delivering our financial systems, controls, policies and strategy – aligned with our clinical priorities and long-term financial sustainability goals. You will work closely with senior finance leaders across the group.

Main duties of the job

Over the next two years, the postholder will have a crucial leadership role in the transition to a single finance function using a single set of financial systems.
You will work across organisational boundaries, supporting the Group model and partnerships that benefit our patients, staff, and local system. This role requires exceptional NHS finance knowledge and strong leadership capabilities. You will also work across financial disciplines and will therefore need a high level of knowledge and understanding of all areas of financial operations including statutory reporting, ledger and transactional accounting, central and divisional financial management, financial sustainability and income.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

* Manage the large-scale Financial Transformation programme to form a group finance function from two separate functions, resolving fundamental differences in approach including the current core financial processing provision being in house in UHBW and outsourced in NBT and ensuring that the resulting function is fit for purpose to offer best in class services internally as well as new services to external partners in accordance with the Group benefits model.
* Develop group/merged Trust level reporting for all aspects and levels of finance, including board reporting and reporting to NHSE.
* Deliver the creation of a groupwide central management accounting function, supporting organisational design and implementation including designing interfaces and data flows with site teams, to work seamlessly with the central team.
* Design and implement the interfaces between the new group level functions in financial services, income and financial sustainability and the central FM and site functions.
* Design and implement standardised financial processes across the organisation.
* Develop a groupwide budget setting process for 2027/28 onwards.
* Manage the significant and complex financial aspects of the dissolution of North Bristol NHS Trust through merger, including delivery of the final part year statutory accounts and audit requirements.
* Identify, and mitigate or manage, financial risks associated with the move to a group level financial function and the adoption of a single ledger and set of processes.
* Manage the financial aspects of the move to a single group level fee paying function.
* Lead on the financial and statutory impacts of any changes to the structure and governance of the charities brough about by merger.
* Develop and lead on training to both finance and non-finance staff on new processes.
* Provide support to the delivery of a new single merged ledger for the Trust.
* Support the development of proposals for delivery of financial services to external partners in accordance with the group benefits case.
* Support the development of a group finance strategy.
* Support the development of any move towards IHO from a financial perspective, understanding impacts on the function and ensuring deliverability.
* Provide financial support to strategic estates projects, working closely with the AD – Financial Planning and Strategic Estates leads.
* Support the Director of Corporate Finance in the development and delivery of long-term financial strategy for the Group driving alignment in approach, methodology and assumptions across the Trusts.

Person specification

Education And Qualifications
Essential criteria

* Qualified Accountant (CCAB) with significant post qualification experience
* Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience
* Evidence of management leadership/training and continuous professional development

Desirable criteria

* Further professional qualification

Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

* Experience of managing large teams through significant change
* Demonstrable track record of leadership, strategic management at senior level

Experience

* Significant senior management experience in an NHS Acute Trust operating with comparable scope, responsibilities, budget and resources
* Track record of successful strategic and operational planning with resource management and financial management control
* Experience of strategic and long-term financial planning
* Experience of leading service and / or transformational change
