The closing date is 16 March 2026

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. Please see below for a detailed job description for the role.

Main duties of the job

This role plays a key part in developing a skilled, confident, and competent workforce within Pharmacy Aseptic Services at UHS. It exists to ensure that staff working in aseptic production and pharmacy apprenticeship pathways receive high‑quality training, assessment, and ongoing professional development. By supporting both new starters and experienced operators, the post helps maintain the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of aseptically prepared medicines for patients across the Trust. Working closely with the aseptic teams, the postholder will coordinate and deliver structured training programmes, oversee competency assessments, and contribute to annual refresher training and operator re‑validations.

The role also supports service improvement by identifying training needs linked to new equipment, updated procedures, and evolving regulatory requirements. Alongside the training responsibilities, the post includes operational work within aseptic services to maintain technical skills and ensure training remains grounded in current practice. This is a role for someone who is passionate about developing others, committed to high standards of aseptic practice, and motivated by improving the quality and safety of patient care through a well‑trained workforce.

About us

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI‑generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS we're committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognising that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We're committed to creating an anti‑racist, anti‑discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

Job responsibilities

This role supports the training and competency assessment of staff working within Pharmacy Aseptic Services. You will design, deliver, and coordinate training programmes for new and existing staff, support annual refresher training and operator revalidations, and act as a skills assessor and educational supervisor for accredited courses.

Working closely with the aseptic teams, you will ensure staff are trained to GMP standards, escalated concerns appropriately, and contribute to service improvement through identifying training needs linked to new equipment, updated procedures, and evolving regulatory requirements. Alongside your training responsibilities, you will maintain your own aseptic practice by working operationally within the unit, supporting safe and compliant production, and performing pre and in‑process checks. You will contribute to quality assurance activities, audits, error monitoring, and the development and review of SOPs. The role also supports safe medicines management, staff induction, recruitment processes, and the aseptic emergency duty service, ensuring high standards of patient care and alignment with Trust values.

Due to the nature of this role and service, this role is on site and the hours are as advertised. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what’s possible for the role and service.
