Description Job Description Are you looking for an opportunity in a fast-paced and high profile policy area, working to support the wellbeing of Scotland’s children and young people whilst in school? This post sits within the Health and Wellbeing team within the Improvement, Attainment and Wellbeing Division. The Health and Wellbeing Team works with partners across the education sector to support the health and wellbeing of children and young people when they are in school. The team has responsibility for a range of policies including relationships and behaviour, attendance, exclusion, anti-bullying, racism and racist incidents, gender-based violence and mental health in schools. The team is currently implementing the Relationships and Behaviour in Schools Action Plan 2024-27. You will contribute to successful delivery of this plan, with an initial focus on undertaking a review of our national guidance on exclusions, “Included, Engaged and Involved Part 2.” The team also receives regular parliamentary questions, media enquiries and micases and this will be a key part of the role. There are regular opportunities to engage with Ministers and external stakeholders, and therefore the post provides excellent development opportunities. Responsibilities Undertaking a review of our national guidance on exclusions ‘Included, Engaged and Involved Part 2’, with the support of a national working group, drafting updated guidance and accompanying materials including impact assessments. Preparing briefings and advice for Ministers and senior officials, providing support at ministerial meetings and visits. Supporting parliamentary activity, including preparation of briefing packs, parliamentary statements and drafting responses to parliamentary questions. Responding to media enquiries on relationships and behaviour policy. Engaging with partners, including COSLA, Education Scotland and members of the Scottish Advisory Group on Relationships and Behaviour in Schools (SAGRABIS). Collaborating with colleagues across Learning Directorate and other relevant teams such as the Promise, Violence Reduction, and communications colleagues on work relating to exclusions specifically, and relationships and behaviour more generally. Supporting the team’s Business of Government workload including micases, parliamentary questions and FOIs.
