The PR and Marketing Communications Manager will contribute to the delivery of a full range of proactive public relations, public affairs, marketing and internal communication activities to support the delivery of Extern’s strategic and corporate objectives, building and deepening knowledge of Extern’s work amongst stakeholder groups across the island of Ireland.


Responsibilities

* To engage with the media and build relationships, acting as a point of contact for all external media enquiries.
* To manage the research and preparation of press releases/ statements in line with agreed key messages and organisational objectives.
* To work with the Director of Communication, Engagement and Partnerships to identify profiling opportunities for the Strategic Leadership Team
* To brief internal spokespeople on media opportunities and to prepare briefing notes on agreed activity.
* To lead, manage and raise awareness of the wider news agenda/government and commissioner messaging via internal communication channels and work with services teams to build responses and deepen external comms and engagement.
* To develop and implement marketing communication campaigns to support the delivery of key services and the organisation’s annual plan. This includes development of key messaging and content (including writing copy, coordinating photography etc)
* To work alongside the Digital and Social Media Officer to maintain and update the organisation’s website and support with messaging and content creation for social media channels across the organisation.
* To evaluate the effectiveness of all activity using a variety of metrics and prepare reports with appropriate recommendations.
* To work within the annual budget to secure value for money support services e.g., design & artwork specialists, print suppliers and videographers.
* To support the Director of Communications, Engagement and Partnerships and services teams by leading on the research and co-ordination of responses to public consultations that relate to Extern services.
* To organise events in collaboration with commissioners and/or Extern led services.To manage the research, preparation of presentations, speeches, materials for senior staff to represent Extern at all events
* To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities to support Extern as requested by the Director of Communications, Engagement and Partnerships.
* To build awareness of Extern’s work in both jurisdictions: NI and ROI.
* To be proactive and innovative in identifying, organising and maximising PR opportunities.
* To be proactive in building Extern’s case study content.
* To manage Public Affairs work in both jurisdictions specifically around funding
* To attend external committees and meetings in both jurisdictions as the representative of Extern as and when required.
* To monitor media activity and prepare media evaluation reports.
* To develop and maintain an effective national and regional media database and build contacts to secure coverage.
* To assist the Director of Communications, Engagement and Partnerships with crisis media management.
* To measure and evaluate all activity against agreed KPI's and reports.
* To develop Marketing and PR communications plans to support delivery of Extern’s strategy.
* To support in the preparation of Extern promotional materials working alongside services teams to deliver all digital and print assets.


Skills and Qualifications

* A degree in a relevant discipline e.g., Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Business Studies, or an equivalent level 6 qualification, as per the UK qualifications framework in a relevant discipline.
* Possess a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a wide range of Communications/ PR/PA/MarComms activities.
* Excellent and demonstrable planning and project management skills, Excellent and demonstrable writing skills.
* Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines.
* Full driving licence and access to own car to include travel throughout the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
* Previous experience of working within the Charity, Community & Voluntary sector
* Comms/PR/Media/Public Affairs experience in Republic of Ireland
* Membership of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations or Chartered Institute of Marketing or equivalent


Further Information

Hours: 37.5 standard hours (including breaks). Flexibility required.Other Requirements:Extern is an island wide organisation and the role will require travel across both jurisdictions from time to time.To be available as required to carry out duties outside of the normal working pattern and in addition to basic contracted hours e.g. planned attendance at Party Conferences, Seminars in line with the Annual Plan.Display a solution based, flexible and enthusiastic approach.Maintain an excellent standard of quality and accuracy across all communications.Possess creativity and innovation to deliver effective solutions and improvements.
