An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced staff nurse for the Centre for Urgent Care (CUC) and The Royal Marsden Hotline based at the Chelsea site. We are looking for an outstanding individual to join a team of highly experienced nurses who provide excellent nursing care and strive to make a difference.
CUC is opened Monday to Friday from 0800 -2030H and provides advanced nursing care to patients of the Royal Marsden Hospital who present with acute symptoms related to their disease or treatment. It supports patients on an ambulatory care pathway and provides care for elective patients booked for day case procedures.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work as a staff nurse within CUC. They will provide a service to ensure the
patients who are acutely unwell have an experience that is co-ordinated and efficient.
The postholder will work collaboratively with medical colleagues, advanced nurse practitioners, other
clinical and non-clinical staff across the trust and external agencies to ensure that patients receive
seamless care across primary, secondary and tertiary settings.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To complete an initial assessment of patients attending CUC and on Hotline, this will include:
2. Ordering and interpreting blood tests and initiate appropriate action(s) as required.
3. Provide advice or referral as appropriate.
4. Educating patients on their treatment such as indications and side effects.
5. Ensuring necessary medication and follow up appointments are obtained.
6. Admitting and discharging patients as their needs require in conjunction with clinical team.

8. Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable criteria
9. Qualification in oncology or speciality Diploma or Degree level study (or equivalent) or willing to undertake
10. Recognised teaching qualification
Experience

11. Experience in intravenous drug administration
12. Sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
