Paediatric Highly Specialist Optometrist

Job Overview

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking eye care team comprising 4 Orthoptists and 6 Consultant Ophthalmologists.

We are seeking a highly specialist Optometrist to provide paediatric optometry services within BCUHB West. The post holder will collaborate with the Orthoptic team at Ysbyty Gwynedd to deliver specialist paediatric eye care and provide expert optometric advice to paediatric patients and their families.

Responsibilities include undertaking detailed refraction, fundus and media checks, and prescribing suitable spectacles. The role requires making patient-centered management decisions, especially in cases where patients cannot cooperate fully. The post involves planning and implementing treatment plans with Orthoptists based on clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice, following departmental guidelines.

Main duties:

* Deliver high-quality optometry services in line with professional guidelines, including paediatric optometry and joint Orthoptic/Optometry clinics.
* Assess complex orthoptic cases referred from Orthoptists and manage their care throughout treatment.
* Work as an autonomous practitioner, making clinical decisions independently.
* Welsh language skills are desirable; applications from Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome.
