Unlock your passions Penmellyn Veterinary Group We are a supportive and friendly practice located in Mid Cornwall, 5 minutes from Newquay airport, 5-10 minutes from the local train station and less than 5 minutes from the A30, the main road into and out of Cornwall. Cornwall offers beautiful beaches, a glorious rugged coastline and stunning inland scenery. The closet beach is less than 10 minutes away. Plenty of places to stop for lunch with epic views when you're out on visits. 20 minutes away from our historic capital city of Truro, but M&S, Next, TKMAX, Boots, Mountain warehouse, MacDonald's and Starbucks are about 5 minutes away too We have a small friendly, tight knit team of 5 FTE Vets, 1 FTE Nurse and 1 FTE Equine Groom. On a monthly basis an experienced Equine Surgeon comes to the practice to help us with cases and upskill all the team, these are great learning days The Equine Vets are supported by a very experienced team of Equine Nurses, admin and grooms. We have regular clinical clubs for the Vets and Nurses and meetings for the whole team, but quite often you'll find us having informal chats in the office over a cup of tea and whatever is in the snack drawer (always kept topped up) whenever we're altogether. Very supportive Senior Vet who is always on the end of the phone. As well as working hard we make sure we socialise as a team outside work, we have our own Christmas party, go to the theatre, for dog walks and for meals out. Our practice has both ambulatory and clinic-based work with full theatre facilities, stables, paddocks and separate isolation facilities. Most of our kit can be used in the practice or out in the field. We have mobile: DR, ultrasound, endoscopy, gastroscopy, surgical and medical laser, dental kit and gait analysis. At the practice we have full theatre and inpatient facilities and can be set up for medical colics, sick foals and infectious diseases etc. We do not cut colics presently but can do most other surgeries. We also have a dedicated radiography room with wall mounted x-ray machine so we can x-ray backs and chests as needed. Step into a supportive start Your normal working hours will be 40 hours per week. Before going on the OOH rota you will work 5 days a week, 08:30am - 6pm. When you are full time on the OOH road you will work 4 days a week, 08:30am - 6pm with the same day off every week and an Equine share in the 1 in 6/8 OOH rota. There are no weekend commitments other than OOH. Having had several graduates before we have been able to hone what we feel is best, but it is also down to the individual graduate. We aim to let you settle in quietly for the first 3 months with no OOH and easy visits for the first few weeks then can have the opportunity to either go with the senior Vets to visits or go by yourself when we know a senior Vet is either in the office ready to assist you when needed or is close by. The next 3 months we will introduce you to the OOH rota. You will shadow a senior Vet to begin with and when you feel ready can go to the visit as the lead Vet with the senior Vet with you, or on standby. We would aim to have you 'by yourself' (there is always a senior Vet who can be called for advice and a backup list of Vets who cover the OOH rota to assist whatever stage you're at) by about 6 months. Day to day you will be an ambulatory Vet, but able to refer cases into the practice and help work these up, progressing to working them up yourselves. We have a vast mix of work so you will be able to develop into pretty much any area you wish.
