Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) is a collaboration of UK police forces working with the UK intelligence community to help protect the public and our national security by preventing, deterring and investigating terrorist activity. Based at our modern offices near to Birmingham International Airport, the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (CTPWM) coordinates the regional counter terrorist response and provides specialist support to police forces in Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Mercia and the West Midlands. The Role As a Detective Inspector within the Investigations department, you’ll be responsible for counter terrorism investigations and community engagement strategies that ensure CTPWM activity protects the public from the risks of terrorism and violent extremism whilst minimising community disruption. You’ll develop and lead high performing teams and embed a professional culture. Leading the response to Counter Terrorism investigations requires innovation, tenacity, a problem solving approach and the ability to foster strong relationships. You’ll effectively and efficiently manage complex investigations, managing competing demands and critically analyse vast amounts of information, identifying and managing risks and implementing appropriate control measures Responsibilities Leading major investigations in a high profile and emotive environment in a manner that enhances trust and confidence, bringing these investigations to a successful criminal justice conclusion. Managing covert and sensitive assets, intelligence and investigative functions to disrupt terrorist activity. Continually improving the quality of service that we provide locally, regionally and nationally in the current economic climate. Demonstrating strong and visible leadership whilst influencing the development of staff and the department in line with the values of West Midlands Police. Effectively supervising investigators in their duties, paying particular attention to welfare, discipline and the improvement of their investigative techniques and provision of suitable training. Assisting with the development of policies and procedures to improve working practices and enhance our reputation. Skills and competencies Essential Having a strong investigative background preferably in leading covert and proactive investigations or major crime investigations, with the proven ability to bring these types of major investigations to a successful criminal justice conclusion. Proven experience in building strong working relationships with partners at regional and national level with the ability to negotiate and use innovation in sometimes pressured environments whilst understanding the significance of the impact of investigative actions on local communities and also regionally/nationally. The successful candidate must hold PIP2 accreditation and be prepared to successfully complete the SIODP (PIP3). The role requires the post holder to have significant flexibility and a willingness to travel often outside the force area. The post holder must maintain confidentiality and trust at all times regarding information gained in the post. Security Check ⚠ This role requires British Nationality (some dual nationalities may be ineligible) and is subject to successful completion of Developed Vetting. You will need to undergo additional security clearance checks, with the offer of employment being conditional on obtaining all of the necessary security clearances. There are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries once in post.
