Job Overview
TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice, and are responsible for product development and qualification from market definition through production and release. They assist in qualifying suppliers for new products to ensure quality parts, materials, and services. The teams conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs, and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication, and manufacturing ramp-up. They provide all required product documentation, including Solid Models, 2D/3D drawings, specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify drawings and models from sketches or notes, contributing to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing or improve quality. Fields of expertise include materials, mechanics, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation, packaging, testing, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical, and electronic components and systems.
Engineering Technician support within product engineering covers AD&M products (e.g., wire & cable, braiding, tubing), from laboratory testing and qualification to ensuring compliance with standards, analyzing data, report writing, and maintaining equipment calibration.
Key Tasks of the Job
* Visual, mechanical, and electrical inspection and testing of products at all stages of manufacture.
* Providing technical support to customers and the business, both in-house and off-site.
* Participating in training courses.
* Supporting development of new products, techniques, or practices.
* Understanding design elements of TE products.
* Using schematics, drawings, and testing tools to ensure quality.
* Developing new testing methods as technology evolves.
* Preparing and maintaining project files, process control documents, and Codes of Practice.
* Interpreting specifications and quality standards.
* Troubleshooting, calibrating, and writing reports.
* Contributing to innovation within Product Engineering and the business.
* Lab management as applicable.
Background & Qualifications
Qualifications & training: HNC / ONC or apprenticeship in engineering or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum 2 years in laboratory testing and qualification testing.
Skills & Aptitudes
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Practical, hands-on technical approach.
* Knowledge of quality control procedures, techniques, and test methods.
* Ability to operate test equipment (e.g., Tensometer, ovens, freezers, HV cage).
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Internet Explorer.
* Ability to interpret drawings.
* Good record-keeping and teamwork skills.
