Role Overview
As Deputy Manager, you'll support the General Manager in all aspects of running the pub, with a particular focus on food operations. From managing service on busy carvery days to ensuring food quality, consistency, and compliance, you'll play a central role in driving the success of this food-led site. You'll also step up and take charge in the General Manager's absence.
Key Responsibilities:
Food & Service
* Lead front-of-house during busy carvery service, ensuring smooth operation and excellent guest experience.
* Work closely with the kitchen team to maintain food quality, presentation, and portion control.
* Ensure food safety, HACCP, and allergen compliance are always upheld.
* Support menu development, promotions, and seasonal offers to drive footfall and sales.
Team Management
* Supervise, coach, and motivate the FOH team to deliver efficient, friendly service.
* Help with rota planning and shift leadership to ensure the right staffing at peak times.
* Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of new staff.
Operational Leadership
* Deputise fully for the General Manager when required, running the site independently.
* Oversee daily operations including opening/closing, cashing up, and stock control.
* Monitor sales, labour costs, and wastage to maximise profitability.
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and compliance across the pub.
Customer Experience
* Be a visible, hands-on leader during service, engaging with customers and resolving issues quickly.
* Champion a warm and welcoming atmosphere, ensuring guests leave satisfied and eager to return.
What We're Looking For
* Experience as a Deputy Manager, Assistant Manager, or Supervisor in a pub, restaurant, or retail environment.
* A genuine passion for customer service, food quality, and service excellence.
* Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate teams.
* Confidence in managing busy service periods and delivering under pressure.
* Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
