Position Summary
The Teaching Assistant will work closely with classroom teachers to support the academic, emotional, and social development of students. The role includes helping to implement lesson plans, manage classroom behaviour, running lunch time activities and ensure a safe, positive learning environment that reflects the values of Prism Independent School.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the lead teacher in delivering engaging and age-appropriate lessons.
* Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to reinforce learning.
* Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
* Help maintain an orderly and supportive classroom environment.
* Supervise students in all school activities.
* Provide feedback on student progress and behaviour to the lead teacher.
* Promote an inclusive and respectful atmosphere in line with the school’s philosophy.
* Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and school events as required.
* Assist with classroom recordkeeping and organisation.
Qualifications
* Minimum of a Level 2/GCSE grade C/4.
* Previous experience working with children in a special school.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
* Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with a teaching team.
* Commitment to the mission and values of Prism Independent School.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
* Familiarity with alternative or progressive education models.
* Experience supporting children with diverse learning needs.
* Basic first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
* Creative, enthusiastic, and proactive approach to student engagement.
Work Environment
* The role requires both classroom and outdoor supervision.
* The role will involve physical activity such as lifting, bending, and working with animals.
* Working hours may vary depending on school schedule and special events.
