Overview
Based in the Media Unit, the Media Unit Technician coordinates day‑to‑day running of the service, provides advice on equipment and specialist software, maintains specialist equipment, updates the Unit’s web resources, coordinates loans of equipment to students and staff, and supports the use of screens and AV equipment in teaching.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate the Media Unit’s day‑to‑day running, including equipment and software maintenance, budget recommendations for new equipment, and installation of new technology.
* Provide advice and support on media equipment and specialist software packages to staff and students, particularly within design disciplines.
* Operate a 3D and environment scanning service for student projects.
* Demonstrate the use of specialist lighting and photographic equipment to students and staff.
* Maintain the Unit’s web resources and digital induction information.
* Coordinate loans of equipment, and set up and support use of screens and AV equipment for teaching.
* Support the Digital Learning Adviser to enhance learning and teaching through technology and specialist software support.
* Provide in‑person inductions for new staff and students on media and software support.
* Provide technical support for student project work across the school, including Live Projects, Theory Forum, Studio open events, and end‑of‑year exhibitions.
* Work with the Health and Safety Officer to ensure equipment meets University Health and Safety regulations.
* Carry out other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
* Experience working in a similar digital learning or technical role in higher education.
* Relevant professional qualification (e.g., FHEA, Associate CMALT) or progression towards one.
* Experience with digital media creation, photography, and associated software.
* Experience with learning technologies and their applications.
* Experience providing support for learning technologies to staff and students.
* Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
* Ability to manage own workload within a complex environment.
* Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders across disciplines.
* Flexible and adaptable approach to team and independent working.
* Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Desirable: additional relevant experience.
Salary and Working Arrangements
£27,319 to £31,236 per annum (pro‑rata), with potential to progress to £33,951. Full‑time, campus‑based.
