The SENCO will ensure that Special Education Needs provision is effective and efficiently managed, ensuring all legal and statutory requirements are met for students needing SEN.
The SENCO will work within a small team responsible for the day-to-day management of SEN, providing professional guidance to teaching staff to maintain and improve teaching standards, optimize resource use, and achieve positive outcomes for students.
As part of the team, the SENCO will review, attend, and lead EHCP reviews for pupils. They will liaise with class teachers in advance of meetings to ensure up-to-date information is collected and collated. They will also coordinate with multi-agency professionals, the Headteacher, and the Senior Leadership Team to update outcomes, share information with staff, and collaborate with external professionals.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Liaising with parents/carers regarding pupils' needs and provisions.
2. Working with the Senior Leadership Team to review and evaluate the school's SEND support and contribute to local offer development.
3. Collaborating with therapy teams, teaching staff, and SLT to analyze patterns in SEN identification and reflect on teaching quality.
4. Acting as a point of contact for external agencies, especially the LA, ensuring appropriate provision.
5. Planning and chairing annual reviews of pupils with Education, Health and Care plans, producing reports in line with the SEND code of practice.
6. Ensuring staff have current EHCPs and that pupils work towards appropriate targets.
Qualifications required include:
* Qualified teacher status or equivalent.
* Completion of the SENCO qualification or willingness to complete within two years.
