Quality Manager / Quality Engineer – Electrical & HVDC (Offshore Wind)
This role supports the delivery of offshore wind electrical packages by defining, implementing, and managing quality planning, assurance, and control activities. The position covers both Quality Manager and Quality Engineer responsibilities, with a strong focus on electrical systems, HVDC infrastructure, and offshore substations across the full project lifecycle from design through handover.
Key Responsibilities – Quality Management
* Define and implement quality concepts, processes, and methods in line with an established Quality Management Framework.
* Develop and implement the project quality strategy using a risk‑based approach, including planning and monitoring of quality resources and budgets.
* Set project quality objectives and define applicable standards and acceptance criteria.
* Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal and external project stakeholders.
* Carry out supplier qualification, assessment, and continuous improvement of supplier quality performance.
* Prepare quality‑related tender documentation, including quality assurance agreements.
* Evaluate tender submissions and support contract negotiations from a quality perspective.
Key Responsibilities – Quality Engineering (Electrical Package)
* Act as Quality Engineer for the Electrical Package, reporting to the Project Quality Manager, Project / Package Management, and the line organisation.
* Plan, coordinate, and control quality activities for electrical contractors, manufacturers, fabricators, civil contractors, installers, and their supply chains.
* Implement contractual, technical, and corporate quality requirements within the electrical scope.
* Plan and manage inspections and monitoring activities at manufacturing plants, fabrication yards, onshore sites, and offshore locations from design through handover to operations.
* Coordinate multi‑disciplinary inspection teams, both onshore and offshore.
* Review and evaluate inspection reports, findings, and quality documentation from contractors and employer systems.
* Record work progress, inspections, and non‑conformities using project quality systems, including root cause analysis and follow‑up of corrective actions.
* Manage documentation deliverables to ensure acceptance‑ready handover to operations or asset transfer entities.
* Plan and conduct quality audits and general quality monitoring activities.
* Support supplier qualification, assessment, and ongoing quality development.
* Work closely with the Project Quality Manager to identify, manage, and mitigate project quality risks.
Deliverables
* Input to commissioning management manuals, pre‑commissioning and commissioning quality plans.
* Participation in internal and external audits.
* Quality reports from FAT and SAT activities for HV and electrical equipment.
* Verification of inspection and monitoring activities throughout manufacturing, installation, and commissioning phases.
* Input into resource planning and work sequencing from a quality perspective.
* Technical quality input during the design phase of the project.
Qualifications and Experience
* University degree or significant experience (HNC/HND) in an electrical engineering or comparable technical discipline.
* Additional qualifications as Quality Engineer, Quality Auditor, or Quality Manager are desirable.
* Proven experience in quality assurance, quality control, and quality management within offshore wind or large‑scale infrastructure projects.
* Strong knowledge of offshore wind components, with particular experience in electrical and substation systems.
* Extensive knowledge of international quality and project standards and technical regulations (e.g. IEC, BS/EN/ISO, DNV, NORSOK, or equivalent).
* Practical experience in construction and/or manufacturing environments, including OEMs, HVDC systems, and complex electrical supply chains.
* Strong understanding of quality risks in both onshore and offshore environments.
* Business‑level proficiency in written and spoken English.
* Confident user of common IT tools and quality management systems.
* Self‑motivated, well organised, and able to maintain oversight in a fast‑paced project environment.
* Collaborative, reliable team player with a willingness to travel in line with project requirements.
