Specialty Doctor, Bolton, General Adult Inpatient
The Trust is seeking a specialty doctor in general adult inpatient psychiatry to join the inpatient team based at the Rivington Unit, Royal Bolton Hospital. This vacancy is an existing post which is due to arisen after the current post holder is due to move to another post within GMMH.
Main duties of the job
Have knowledge and skills in the assessment of patients presenting with mental health disorders.
To be able to assess, formulate and manage risk (e.g. suicide risk, violence/aggression, absconding) relating to psychiatric conditions in the inpatient settings.
To be able to formulate management plans in complex cases, advising the inpatient MDT and wider divisional teams on appropriate integrated care.
Prescribing and giving advice to the inpatient team on psychotropic medication.
Have knowledge and skills in using both The Mental Health and Mental Capacity Acts and be able to give advice to others about the use of the acts.
The post holder will be required to seek approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983. If the post holder does not have Section 12 approval, the service will help in the acquisition of this approval.
The post holder may occasionally be called upon to do a physical health examination and perform venepuncture and ECGs and be able to interpret the results.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment.
* S12(2) approval/Eligible to work towards s12(2) approval if not already held
* Completed four years of full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), at least two of which were in a specialty training programme in psychiatry or as a fixed term specialty trainee in psychiatry
* Applicant's knowledge is up to date and fit to practise safely
