Apple Orchard has four homes in Surrey and West Sussex. Each home is set in a rural location and offers a comfortable homely environment for young males aged - years.
We aim to help young people to develop insight into their experiences so that they can move on from their often damaged traumatic past. We support them as they take steps to make sense of their lives by providing clear and safe boundaries and achievable goals. This includes positive reinforcement strategies such as reward charts and free time.
Central to our work is the need to provide a high level of nurturing, ensuring all the basic needs of the young person are met to the highest standard. This includes providing a home with a warm and friendly atmosphere where great emphasis is placed on building supportive relationships and positive attachments.

* To observe and assess young people’s progress and keep accurate records of their achievements, behaviour, and important events. To produce and maintain an up-to-date life book for each young person under your keyworking responsibilities.
* To work with local authorities/placing authorities to ensure outstanding care for the young people.
* To establish and maintain positive relationships with parents/carers that support young people’s learning and development, valuing parental involvement where appropriate.
* To be flexible within the working practices of the home, including undertaking domestic tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning, shopping, etc.
* Work alongside the Manager and staff team to fulfill the home’s philosophy.
* To keep clear, legible records regarding the young people, ensuring entries are well-expressed, non-stigmatising, and distinguish fact from opinion and third-party information.
Essential skills:
* Previous experience working with teenage boys or challenging behaviour, with a willingness to develop skills further.
* Hold a driving license and have access to a vehicle; public transport may not be viable due to the rural location.
* Hold or be willing to work towards a Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma, Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level in Health & Social Care, or equivalent.
* Willingness to engage young people in activities and support their journey towards independence and adulthood.
* Flexibility with working hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and shift work, with every other weekend off.
* Ability to challenge unacceptable behaviour, set firm boundaries, and meet individual needs.
