About the Role:
As a Teaching Assistant at Liverpool Progressive School, you will support children and young people with Autism, SEMH, and complex additional needs, helping them thrive in a nurturing, inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Support students 1:1 or in small groups to access learning tailored to their individual needs.
Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and self-confidence using consistent, trauma-informed approaches.
Work closely with teachers and therapists to implement personalised learning strategies and EHCP targets.
Support students with communication, daily routines, transitions, and sensory needs.
Encourage independence and social interaction through structured and play-based activities.
Contribute to behaviour support plans using positive, proactive methods.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to progress tracking and review meetings.Must-Have Skills & Qualities:
Experience working with children or young people in an educational, care, or SEN setting.
A calm, patient, and nurturing approach to behaviour and learning.
Understanding of safeguarding, child development, and inclusive practice.
Ability to follow guidance while also using initiative in fast-paced situations.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.Good to Have:
Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
Experience working with Autism, SEMH, or non-verbal pupils.
Knowledge of strategies like PECs, Makaton, or Zones of Regulation.
Familiarity with EHCPs and person-centred planning.Nice to Have:
Team Teach, MAPA, or positive handling training.
First Aid or Mental Health First Aid qualification.
Creative skills (art, music, drama, sport) that can be integrated into sessions.
