Shift Leader
Summary: In this role you will be responsible for leading and managing the production staff through day‑to‑day activities. Training and developing production staff (operationally and personally). Ensuring health and safety policies and procedures are followed at all times, reinforcing the organisational safety culture. Reinforcing adherence to the company quality standards. Interacting closely with the Production Manager to execute the agreed production schedule. Working with other departments around the site – supply chain, planning, quality, engineering, technical and warehousing – to ensure all requirements of production are met. Identifying, promoting and leading Lean 5s & CI work practices within the production processes.
Responsibilities
* Organize and prepare jobs for production staff before their shift.
* Ensure that production processes adhere to company standards and regulatory requirements.
* Maintain high levels of quality standards and assist with quality control throughout the production facility.
* Accurately complete all necessary documentation for regulatory compliance.
* Train and induct new employees into the team.
* Communicate expectations to production team members and evaluate their performance, taking responsibility for monitoring and reporting agreed KPIs via quarterly 1‑2‑1 meetings.
* Implement relevant emergency response procedures in emergency situations.
* Ensure daily inspection list is completed and report any findings to ensure safe and efficient workflow.
* Assist in the development and monitoring of production schedules with the planning and logistics department.
* Report the need for repair or replacement of faulty production equipment to the maintenance department.
* Ensure all resources and assets are used efficiently and correctly.
* Enforce compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures and investigate and report on near misses and accidents.
* Complete production housekeeping.
* Support projects/groups created to help continuously improve the site.
* Update and present GEMBA meetings.
* Monitor time, attendance and plan overtime and holidays for production.
* Complete back‑to‑work interviews and any disciplinary procedures alongside HR.
Qualifications
* Minimum of grade C / 4 in English and maths.
* 2 years of manufacturing experience in a processing environment.
* Demonstrable experience of leading a team within a manufacturing environment.
* IT skills – able to use MS applications.
* Highly motivated self‑starter with 1 year’s experience in a supervisory/team leadership role (preferred).
* Good interpersonal and motivational skills (preferred).
