Job description
You will own the delivery of multiple initiatives in the integration space for Mortgages supporting strategic roadmap, reliability, best practice adoption and resilience. This role is within Mortgages CIO function under CT(Customer Technology), part of the wider COO organisation, which is responsible for delivering IT solutions which have our customers and colleagues at heart.
You will be accountable for end-to-end delivery of the agreed roadmap that supports our Virgin Money Integration and Migration Strategy. You will work closely with Principal engineer and architecture team to provide thought leadership to our Engineering teams.
As a Lead Engineer you will ensure our systems and platforms are designed, developed and tested in a resilient and secure manner, aligned to strategy, ensuring we're applying good engineering practices and principals. This role is within The Mortgages CIO function. Mortgages are primarily provided via brokers, through our online and API channel. We are actively expanding our propositions in both Home and Landlord space as part of integration.
This role will drive a culture of continuous improvement, with a focus on building technical capability (including people) across all disciplines. Across CT, we have an important journey ahead of us to build and maintain our position in the market and respond to changing customer needs, guided by the strategic pillars of More Rewarding Relationship, Simply Brilliant Service and Focused, Fit and Fast. This is a pivotal role within the CT Engineering team, who rely on this role for support in planning and strategic thinking to drive forward the delivery agenda.

What you'll be doing
* Lead the integration and migration strategy for mortgage platforms, with a focus on Landlord and Residential Mortgage systems and cloud-native architectures.
* Own the end-to-end lifecycle of technical and functional delivery within the Mortgages domain, ensuring alignment with business objectives, compliance requirements, and regulatory standards.
* Provide technical leadership across Oracle PL/SQL, ETL pipelines, and cloud migration efforts, ensuring scalable, secure, and performant data flows.
* Design and implement CI/CD pipelines and API integrations, leveraging Jenkins, Terraform, and Ansible for automated, reliable deployments. Lead the development of secure, scalable API frameworks that connect backend mortgage systems with customer-facing portals and third-party platforms.
* Drive containerization and orchestration strategies using Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift. Ensure the delivery of modular, resilient microservices architectures with robust access control, secrets management, and operational scalability.
* Lead cloud migration initiatives from on-prem to AWS and Azure, including infrastructure assessment, data migration, security hardening, and compliance enforcement (FCA, GDPR).
* Collaborate with stakeholders to produce technical design documents, translating functional specifications into robust engineering solutions.
* Provide mentorship and direction to engineers, fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and technically excellent team culture.
* Ensure real-time observability and SLA adherence using monitoring tools such as Dynatrace and AppDynamics.
* Participate in strategic planning and architectural decisions for Virgin Money integration, with a focus on scalability, resilience, and future-proofing.
* Work closely with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical roadmaps, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
* Manage and grow engineering teams, promoting a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
About you
We need somebody with:
* Proven experience in the financial services sector, particularly in mortgage systems and large-scale data migration programmes.
* Deep technical expertise in Oracle PL/SQL, Unix/Linux systems, and ETL frameworks for high-volume data processing.
* Hands-on experience with cloud-native engineering, including full lifecycle migrations, hybrid architectures, and regulatory compliance.
* Strong background in DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, and automated deployment strategies using modern toolchains.
* Proficiency in API development, middleware integration, and secure messaging systems
* Prior delivery experience in mortgage platforms, especially Sopra Summit and Landlord migration scenarios.
* Demonstrated success in container orchestration, microservices architecture, and cloud security best practices.
* Ability to lead strategic integration efforts in merger/acquisition contexts, with a focus on scalability, resilience, and compliance.
* A technical leader with a strong execution mindset, strategic vision, and the ability to influence across business and technology teams.
* Extensive experience in Banking and financial industry working across products including mortgages or other lending products.
* A passion for continuous learning, openness to emerging technologies, and adaptability in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
