About the Role
Noble Recruiting is working with a leading local authority in Essex to appoint an Interim Head of Waste Management.
This is a senior leadership position overseeing one of the UK’s largest waste disposal operations, managing services that process more than 650,000 tonnes of waste each year.
You’ll lead a team of over 200 staff across 21 recycling centres, four transfer stations and several closed landfill sites. The role involves strategic oversight of major contracts covering waste treatment, recycling, and haulage, ensuring value for money, compliance, and environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage all operational waste management services across Essex.
* Ensure health, safety and environmental compliance across all facilities.
* Deliver financial control of waste budgets totalling around £90 million per annum.
* Oversee multi-million-pound contracts and major procurement projects.
* Manage performance, savings targets and service improvements.
* Maintain strong relationships with twelve local waste collection authorities.
Skills and Experience Required
* Proven leadership experience in waste management or environmental services.
* Strong understanding of health and safety and regulatory compliance.
* Ability to manage complex budgets and high-value contracts.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
* Background in local government or large-scale waste operations preferred.
