An opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Physiotherapy Support Worker to be a static member of staff on the Spinal unit at NUH NHS trust on a permanent basis.
Full time: 37.5 hours
Working pattern: Sunday to Thursday (Initially, the staff member will work Monday to Friday to learn processes and procedures). Full-time, part-time, and flexible working patterns are not considered at this time.
The successful candidate will be required to join the orthopaedic rota system to cover bank holidays.
You will work under the supervision and guidance of trained physiotherapists, supporting the multidisciplinary team to provide physiotherapy assessment and intervention to rehabilitate patients and facilitate hospital discharges.
The Spinal physiotherapy team provides physiotherapy cover across the spinal unit on ward D8 at NUH, located at Queens Medical Centre (QMC). You should be able to work flexibly to support both major trauma and trauma wards at QMC.
You will primarily work alongside a qualified physiotherapist, providing initial interventions such as mobility, transfers, and balance assessments. You will also gather information from patients, relatives, and carers regarding social history using our therapy assessment form.
Under supervision, you will set and deliver treatment and discharge plans, including provision of walking aids, mobility progression, confidence building, strengthening exercises, and falls prevention. Promoting safety, wellbeing, and independence in activities of daily living is essential.
Excellent communication skills are required to collaborate effectively with the wider MDT and occupational therapists, supporting an integrated therapy approach.
Non-clinical responsibilities include data collection, managing walking aid supplies, stocking levels, and other administrative duties.
NUH offers many opportunities for career development within the NHS. Our Therapy Services department is supportive, with a robust appraisal process and numerous learning opportunities.
The Physiotherapy service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway within the Clinical Support Division, comprising over 600 staff including physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists, and speech and language therapists. The pathway is led by a Chief AHP, with many pathway leaders having AHP backgrounds, and Practice Development Therapists supporting career growth.
